Here is a history page for Bridge City.
Bridge City was first known as Prairie View. The name was changed to Bridge City in 1941. In the early days, the residents were sustained by farming and cattle ranching.
Two bridges span the Neches river between Bridge City and Port Arthur. The Rainbow bridge finished in 1938 with clearance of 176 feet, is known as the tallest bridge in the south. The bridge is 7,760 feet long. It wasn't named until many years later when a contest was held to choose the name. Thousands of entries were received, but the winning name of Rainbow Bridge was from a six year old girl. Once the bridge was completed in 1938, the community began to prosper. The cable-stayed Veterans Memorial Bridge was completed in 1990 and has a clearance of 143 feet and a length of 9,440. It was named for the Veteran's Memorial park at the foot of the bridge on the Jefferson County side.
