Originally this town was created as a Christian seaside resort for the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1873. The railroad came to town by 1878 which also brought more visitors. In 1879, the town name became the Rehoboth Beach Association.
This community has been a favorite summer resort for the Washington legislators and visitors. It is about two hours or so from Washington D.C. Real Estate boomed during the 1920's with the town gaining more visitors as a resort.
