History & History Related Items

Solvang, or Sunny Fields, was founded by Danish people from the Midwest who yearned to create a little Denmark here. What evolved is a picturesque community with Danish-style architecture, including windmills. Many Danish foods, bakery products and crafts are seen in town today. There is also the 19th mission to be established in the California Mission chain, Old Mission Santa Ines, built in 1804.
