History & History Related Items

The area was first established on 1 January 1836 when Levi Barnes and Samuel Chapman received the waterpower rights on the Fox River. A dam was built first, then a sawmill and flourmill. The community of Waterford built up around these three places.

The name is due to the shallow area of the Fox River here where early travelers could ford the river easily. Thus, Waterford was created. The village was incorporated in 1906.
