Stoughton history:

Here is a history page for Stoughton.

An Englishman who came here from Vermont, Luke Stoughton, founded the city in 1847. He wanted to build a mill on the River. Once begun, the city was destined to grow when he was able to convince the railroad to come through the town instead of another community. The village was incorporated in 1862 and then as a city in 1882.
