Hortonville was settled and founded by Alonzo Erastus Horton. He was born in Connecticut in 1813. He laid out his first plat for the Village on 5 November 1849. Others came, settling the area, buying land, building homes and helping the village to grow. Horton, meanwhile, was smitten with "gold fever," and sold everything to leave for the west and the fortune to be made in California.
Incorporation for the Village of Hortonville was completed on 11 August 1894.

Attractions

Black Otter Lake - the only lake in the county, is here.
It has a boat ramp and an average depth of 9 feet. The lake has 75 square acres of water. Some fish found in the lake are Bluegill, Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike.
