Once known as LeHewtown, Front Royal was incorporated on 15 November 1788.

The Battle of Front Royal
on 23 May 1862 the Southern forces overcame the occupation of the Union Army in this area under the direction of General Stonewall Jackson.

Attractions

Front Royal is known as the gateway to the Shenandoah Valley and the Skyline Drive. The northern entrance to Skyline Drive begins in Front Royal.
