Colonial Beach quickly became a "tourist attraction" with its beachers and waterfront properties. By the late 1800's, many Victorian homes and hotels were built. Alexander Graham Bell was one of the towns early residents. He, among others, used Colonial Beach as a summer retreat.

Known as the "Oyster Capital of the Potomac" because of fighting just offshore during the Oyster Wars.

Attractions

Colonial Beach is a quaint little town tucked away on the Potomac River in the Northern Neck section of Virginia. It is only about 15 miles from the birthplaces of George Washington, James Monroe and Robert E. Lee.
