Lamesa location: in west, central Texas; just below the 'pan-handle' area and about 30 miles from the New Mexico/Texas. It is also about 60 miles south of Lubbock, and 55 miles north of the Midland/Odessa border.

Lamesa attractions:

Dawson County Museum -- A local museum featuring relics from the early farming, ranching, and oil field days of the area. Located on the SE corner of the town square, across from the County Courthouse building. The Museum is in the building that was built as the Del Paso Hotel. The Pharmacy and soda fountain were located in what is now the Chamber of Commerce that is a portion of the same building.

Lamesa economy: a mixture of farming (primarily cotton but also includes grain, peanuts, and pecan orchards), oil production, and ranching. There is also a state prison facility located just east of the city limits.
