Capt. J.H. Garrison purchased 387 acres on the Attoyac River. Later, on 29 August 1884, he and William craig gave 125 acres to the railroad. Most of the land was set aside for a townsite, but eleven acres remained for the depot site and right-of-way. The area was named Garrison. Soon businesses followed and the town began to grow.
