Marion County was named for General Francis Marion, aka "Swamp Fox." He was a Revolutionary War hero. In Marion there is a statue of Marion in the square across from the Robert Mills Courthouse.
The County Seat for Marion County is Marion.
Marion County is surrounded by the following counties: Dillon, Florence, and Horry
Marion County is part of the Pee Dee Region of east central South Carolina which also includes 6 other counties - Williamsburg, Marlboro, Dillon, Lee, Florence, and Darlington.

Marion County Museum
Housed in the Marion Academy Building, this museum offers collections of antiques, artist displays and exhibits which depicts the history of the area.
The Little Pee Dee River is a source of recreation in the county with fishing or canoeing between Nichols and Mullins.
