Vinita is the second oldest town in the state! It was founded in 1871 during the expansion of the railroad in the area. It was first known as Downingville but the name was changed tl honor Vinnie Ream. She was the artist that created the liefe-size statue of Lincoln in the U.S. Capitol.

Vinita was the first city in Oklahoma to have electricity.

Vinita's claim to fame may be it is home to the nation's largest McDonalds. The building, which straddles the Will Rogers Turnpike, is huge - almost 30,000 square feet. Before the structure was a McDonalds, it was a restaurant called the Glass House.
