Tappan history:

Tappan was the site of the Major John Andre inprisonment, trial and hanging. Major John Andre, conspiring with Benedict Arnold was found to possess the plans to West Point. Tappan was where the Orangetown Resolutions were written. This document was written before the Declaration of Independence and is considered as an inspiration for the Declaration Of Independence. General Washington stayed in Tappan several times during and after the Revolutionary War.
