Morristown was named for a local landowner, Gouverneur Morris. It was first known as the Haque. The area began to be settled in the late 1700's, but didn't grow much until after the War of 1812. During that war, the first local incident occurred opposite Morristown.

McConnell's Windmill
This windmill, built about 1825, was used for many purposes after Hugh McConnell, the original owner and builder, died in 1826. The land and windmill were donated to the village. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
