Founded when the railroad camethrough in 1903. Primarily a tourist town, though logging and therailroad are still important. The ski mountain andsnowmobiling bring tourists in the winter, outdoormountain recreation and fishing are popular in summer.Itıs a pretty town, but the winter goes on too long formost folks. We get moose on the streets in winter. "Stumptown" was once one of the nicknames for Whitefish.
