Branson, Missouri Historical Events

This was the year when the big tourist boom began with the opening of a number of theaters and showplaces.

Table Rock Dam was completed and the area's largest man-made lake, Table Rock Lake, was formed.
Branson was incorporated on 1 April. There were 1,200 residents in Branson at that time.
Harold Bell Wright wrote a book entitled The Shepherd of the HIlls, about this area. It became a huge best seller and quickly, tourists from all over the USA began to come to the Ozarks.
Rueben Branson opened a general store which became the post office and was listed as Branson, Missouri, named after Rueben.
