Albert Lea hosts the Big Island Rendezvous and Festival the first weekend in October each year.
The award-winning living history event has two days (Thursday and Friday) for school and home school families to send their students for a “hands-on” learning experience concerning family life in early America.
The public attend on the weekend (First Saturday and Sunday in October) and shop among 250 tents and 1,000 costumed participants for colonial crafts and specialty foods such as funnel cakes, buffalo, pork, chicken and kettle korn.
Stage entertainment is ongoing with music groups from Canada and the United States perform, folk, bluegrass and Cajun music and dance.
