Chamber of Commerce.
The area that is now Eagle Harbor was part of a land grant to Joy Woods by Lord Baltimore in 1659. The area remained agricultural for about two hundred years with the main crop being tobacco. After the Civil War, a tobacco warehouse was built by Captain George Weems, who owned the Weems Steamboat Company. It became an important stop for the Baltimore trading ships. Two hotels were also built nearby for both business use and for tourists. Until the late 1920’s, the area retained these few businesses and did not grow a great deal. In 1926, Walter Bean bought the land known as Eagle Harbor and began to sell small parcels of land for less than $ 50 each. Selling quickly, the lots quickly gave birth to many summer cottages and a few larger homes. Eagle Harbor was incorporated in 1929.
