History & History Related Items

A Dr. Logan came here to practice medicine in the area. He built a ferry on the SAbine River which he called Logan's Ferry. Later, on 28 February 1848, when the post office was opened here, it was given the name of Logansport. Once the railroad connected here, more people began to arrive, some stable citizens and others of not so good character, such as gamblers. At one time, there were more saloons than grocery stores.
