History & History Related Items

Here is a history page for Miles.

Because of a lack of wood and water in the area, Miles did not develop until later in Jackson County history. Several families came here from 1850 on, but in 1853, James Miles and his brother, Justin, came to claim some land. When the railroad surveyed the land here in 1870, F.M. Miles deeded land for a depot. It wasn't until after 1870 that homes began to be built. The town was platted on 10 October 1872.
