History & History Related Items

During the Gold Rush era of the mid 1800’s, Thomas Law Reed came to the area to provide wheat for the miners. When he donated land for the railroad station, the town was begun. The railroad named the new settlement in his name. As the gold fever lessened, the need for wheat also decreased. Irrigation bringing water from the Kings River helped the area establish itself as a booming region for fruit and vineyards. New settlers began to arrive and Reedley was incorporated in 1913.
