Location

moderate with average temperatures around 50 degrees in winter and about 70 degrees in summer. High temperatures may reach the low 90's during mid-summer. History & History Related Items

In 1905, a group of settlers saw potential for the area if they could bring the needed water. They created a system of canals that directed water frmo the Arroyo Seco River and were able to harness the fertile soils in the Greenfield area.

Though a small town, Greenfield is proud of its accomplishments and the close-knit relationships found here. Economy & Industry


A productive agricultural area, Greenfield is often referred to as the Salad Bowl of the World. Millions of dollars of fruits and vegetables are produced as well as shipped around the world from here. The area is also known as Steinbeck Country due to author, John Steinbeck, which draws more tourists to local events and attractions. It is also a prominent wine grape growing region with vineyards, wineries and wine-tasting.

Employment is not just centered in agriculture but also in a great variety of industries including government, service and tourism. Permanent residents are dreawn to the area for its affordable housing and good employment opportunities here and in nearby areas.
