Castroville is the Artichoke Capital of the World, providing about 75 percent of the nation's supply!

The Artichoke Festival is held every year in May. The vegetable is celebrated with demonstrations, souvenirs, food, arts and crafts and more. A 10K Run is also held. On a trivia note, Marilyn Monroe, then known as Norma Jean Baker, was the festival's very first Artichoke Queen in February 1948..
