The area where Carmichael is now located was once part of a large Mexican land grant made in 1844 to Joel Dedmond. Daniel Carmichael bought about 2,000 acres of land here in the early 1900's. It was known as Carmichael Colony No. 1. He later bought more acreage and called it Carmichael Colony No. 2.

Here is a history page for Carmichael with a picture of Dan Carmichael, the founder of the community. He then divided up the property into lots and began to sell them off. The first settlers bought in 1907. As the area grew, a business district eventually developed.
