A permit to establish the Pleasant Valley School was granted by the Santa Barbara County Superintendent of Schools on November 10, 1868. At that time the present Ventura County was still a part of Santa Barbara County. There were six pupils in the first Pleasant Valley School class held in 1868-1869 in an abandoned granary on the Hugo Carlson ranch on Somis Road. In the fall of 1869, another granary, situated on a small hill west of the original Camarillo settlement was obtained for use as a classroom.
